Orthodontist

Melanie Parker

My mission is to create beautiful, healthy smiles in a positive, welcoming, friendly, and professional environment. I pledge to educate my patients and the community on oral and overall health, and to volunteer my time and talents to the benefit of the public and my profession.

I became an orthodontist because I understand the positive effect a beautiful smile can have on a person’s confidence and self-image. I enjoy getting to know all my patients and their families, and love the great team of people that helps me create great smiles in the office.

Education and Continuing Education

I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco , and continued on to earn my Masters in oral biology and specialization in orthodontics. I spend numerous hours each year staying on the forefront of orthodontic technology by taking continuing education courses. In addition to attending lectures at local, state, and national meetings, I co-lead a study club for complex cases and have run a continuing education series.

Outside the Office

A native of Colorado, I’ve been proud to call San Diego my home since 1999. When I’m not practicing orthodontics, I enjoy exploring the great outdoors by rock climbing, hiking, skiing, and wake boarding.

In the Community
I have a true dedication to my community because I am invested in the lives of my patients, inside and out of the office. I volunteer my time at the UCSD dental outreach program to provide care to the homeless and low-income families.

On the faculty, I lecture to pre-dental students and medical students, and mentor students as they shadow me in the office. I was a founder of the Flying Doctors San Francisco chapter, which provides dental care in rural Mexico, and participate in CDA Cares events, which alleviate pain and infection for thousands across California.

I have been in the dental field since 2006, and in 2011 I joined Dr. Parker's team, where I discovered my passion for orthodontics. What began as a clinical role has grown into a rewarding career that has allowed me to serve our patients in many capacities over the years.

From Clinical Assistant to Clinical Supervisor, and now as Office Manager and Financial Coordinator, I have gained a deep appreciation for every aspect of our practice and the opportunity to create positive experiences for our patients and their families.

Today, as Office Manager and Financial Coordinator, I oversee the daily operations of the practice and work closely with patients to help them navigate insurance benefits, treatment costs, and financial arrangements. My experience in both clinical and administrative roles provide me with a unique understanding of the patient journey and allows me to support our team and patients effectively.

I am passionate about creating a welcoming environment where patients feel valued, informed, and cared for. Building strong relationships with our patients and contributing to the success of our practice has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.

I am grateful to work alongside such an amazing team. The support, friendship, and shared commitment we have for our patients make our office a truly special place. I love being part of a work family that genuinely cares for one another and for every patient who walks through our doors.

I feel especially fortunate to work for Dr. Parker, whose leadership has an impact on both our patients and our team. She not only provides exceptional care to every patient she treats, but she also truly invests in her staff. Dr. Parker fosters a positive and encouraging workplace where kindness, respect, and teamwork are valued. She is committed to helping us grow professionally, ensuring we stay educated, confident, and equipped to provide the highest level of care. Her dedication to both her patients and her team is one of the many reasons I am proud and honored to work for her these past 15 years.

When I'm not at the office, I am a proud mom of three amazing children who keep life busy and fun. I love spending quality time with my family, traveling to new places, cooking for the people I love, and enjoying a little shopping whenever I get the chance. Family is at the heart of everything I do, and I bring that same sense of care, connection, and compassion to our practice every day.

Clinical Supervisor / Registered Dental Assistant

I began my journey as a dental assistant in 2014. After testing the waters in periodontics, general dentistry, and oral surgery, I finally found my home in orthodontics! I love answering all the questions my patients have for me and educating them on orthodontics and dentistry in general.

The most rewarding part however, is helping an anxious patient feel relaxed and excited to be here.

On the weekends, you can find me hanging out with friends and either attending church or volunteering for church events. I love singing and acting, although most of the time it’s in my car! I am a lighting designer on the side and work with Awaken Theater during the Christmas and Easter times. I love sunsets and sunrises and will wake up early to hike up the mountain to catch the sunrise. Other times, I love taking naps with my cat!

I get to greet all of the wonderful patients that come in, help them schedule, and answer any questions or concerns they may have about their orthodontic treatment. My favorite part of my job is being in an environment that is so amazing, cheerful, and hardworking!

Hi, I’m Katherine, though most people call me Kat. I have been in the dental field as an RDA for 2 years. Born and raised in San Diego. I enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, tennis, field hockey, and swimming. I also love simple things like the smell of new books and spending time with my friends and family.
